Schum & Associates was tasked with researching, writing, compiling materials from archives, designing, art directing photography and managing the printing of the brochure while working closely with the communications team of the College. The result is a 24-page book, created to commemorate and celebrate the 13 years of Timothy J. Sullivan’s presidency of The College of William and Mary upon his resignation in 2005. The primary goal was to generate enthusiasm for the College through a presentation of anecdotes and history of Sullivan's tenure and to communicate future college initiatives. "With a print run of over 10,000 brochures, we needed to reach three distinct audiences of alumni, faculty and staff, and state and business leaders. Our strategy was to write in a narrative and friendly style while often incorporating humor", said Guy Schum, President and Creative Director of Schum & Associates in McLean, Virginia. The writing was embellished with photos and memorabilia from the past 13 years. The result is a piece that has been universally praised as one of the finest publications ever produced by the College, with a return on investment still being realized as a strong tool for recruitment and fundraising efforts.
